How Terrain Current evaluates products
The calculation comes before the product. Terrain Current begins with the user's electrical and practical requirements, then identifies products that can satisfy them.
1. Start with the use case
We estimate required energy capacity, continuous output, short-duration peak demand, charging opportunities, trip length, portability needs and an appropriate energy reserve. A lightweight overnight trip and a multi-day powered campsite require different equipment, so there is no universal best power station.
2. Separate evidence from estimates
Terrain Current distinguishes between official specifications, engineering calculations, independent test results, recurring owner reports and our own field observations. Owner reports help identify questions for further investigation, but they are not treated as verified measurements or failure rates.
3. Name the product status
- Research candidate: included for further comparison using currently available evidence.
- Affiliate verified: the offer and program terms have been checked, but this does not imply hands-on testing.
- Hands-on tested: Terrain Current identifies what was actually used, observed or measured.
4. Apply an eligibility check
Before becoming a recommendation candidate, a product should be currently sold in the target market, supported by accessible documentation, suitable for the intended electrical load and charging method, and covered by identifiable warranty and return terms. Unresolved compatibility or safety concerns prevent a firm recommendation.
5. Compare the specifications that matter
- Rated capacity and estimated usable energy
- Continuous and surge output
- AC, DC and USB output options
- Charging methods, voltage and current limits
- Weight, dimensions and carrying practicality
- Warranty and customer-support information
- Current price relative to the required capability
6. Recommend by scenario fit
A product must first satisfy the calculated requirements. Eligible products are then compared for the particular camping scenario. Products with incomplete evidence may appear in a research table, but they will not receive a firm recommendation.
7. Date prices and availability
Prices, promotions, specifications and availability can change. Values shown on Terrain Current are dated research snapshots and should be verified with the merchant before purchase.
8. Keep commissions out of the ranking
A product is not ranked higher because it pays a higher commission. A suitable product may be included even when Terrain Current has no affiliate relationship with its seller. When affiliate links are introduced, a plain-language disclosure will appear near each recommendation or link group.
9. Correct the record
